"josephine" Medallion, 24-carat Gold-plated & Semiprecious Stones - Circa 1980

In 1804, Napoleon I presented Josephine with a sumptuous piece of jewelry.
Recognized by many experts as dating back to Charlemagne, this piece is a masterpiece of Carolingian jewelry art.
This magnificent reproduction was crafted by the master artisans of the Ateliers d’Art de la Bergerie in Pont Barret, Drôme (26, France); see the attached information sheet.
Gilded with 24-karat gold on both sides, the edge, and the handles, it is inlaid with 32 genuine gemstones, 4 cabochon emeralds, 14 cabochon amethysts, one oval aventurine measuring 2.5 cm x 2 cm, 5 cabochon garnets, and 10 cultured pearls, including 2 on the bail.
The three-lobed palmette engravings represent a stylized fleur-de-lis.
Comes with a fixed gold chain featuring links hammered with palmette motifs.
