Claude Michel, known as Clodion. His career gained momentum after the accession of Louis XVI in 1774. He established himself among wealthy art collectors building mansions in the new Parisian neighborhoods. He created major bas-reliefs. Producing a growing number of light, virtuosic works right up until the Revolution, his clientele was such that he no longer needed to exhibit at the Salon until 1801. During the Empire, he continued to produce brilliant terracotta works, alongside prestigious commissions, some of which were monumental.
