Shell Cameo with Female Profile, Chased Metal Mount, 19th Century
Finely hand-carved shell cameo depicting an elegant female profile inspired by the Neoclassical style, with an elaborate updo, a headband and a classical draped garment. The carver skillfully used the natural layers of the shell to enhance the hair and selected details of the drapery.
The cameo is preserved in its original finely chased metal mount, dating from the 19th century, complete with its original brooch fitting on the reverse.
