Antique Pair Of Candle-holding Angels, Made Of Carved, Lacquered And Gilded Wood

A splendid pair of antique candle-holding angels, crafted from carved, lacquered, and gilded wood. These are sacred decorative sculptures known as candlestick holders or torch holders. They were placed on altars or alongside religious and patrician furnishings. The draped robes with subtle movements and the type of shaped bases recall Baroque or late-Renaissance sculpture from central Italy (most likely Tuscan or Umbrian), dating primarily between the late 16th and 17th centuries. The two mirrored angels each raise one arm to support the candlestick, while with the other they make a welcoming or prayerful gesture. Condition: The figures show typical signs of aging, such as small losses of gold leaf and lacquer on the flesh, elements that confirm their authenticity and antique charm.
