Oil on panel by Samuel Frère (1845–1931), depicting Saint-Tropez.

Signed lower right. DELF frame.

Artwork: 41 x 27 cm; with frame: 40 x 54 cm

Provenance: Galerie Rollin, Rouen

Samuel Frère was born in Mont-Saint-Aignan in 1845. A prominent figure in the city of Rouen, he was a writer, painter, president of the Société Artistique de Normandie, a member of the Académie des Sciences et Belles-Lettres de Rouen, and a music critic for the *Journal de Rouen*. He died there in 1931.

In this beautiful oil painting, the artist employs a more pronounced Impressionist brushstroke than usual and more vivid colors than those used in his Normandy landscapes.
