Baccarat "rouleau" Vase, Enameled Crystal On A Silver-plated Bronze Base, Circa 1870–1880, Japanese-style
Antique slightly amber-colored crystal roll vase from the Baccarat crystal factory.
Model dating from the 1870–1880 period.
It is richly decorated with a delicate, Japanese-inspired enamel design, characteristic of late 19th-century taste. The design combines gilded reserves, flowering branches, turquoise foliage, and blue flowers accented with white enamel beads, in a style reminiscent of the creations presented at the World’s Fairs.
The vase rests on a silver-plated bronze base shaped like gnarled branches adorned with flowers and buds.
This naturalistic base perfectly highlights the simplicity of the vase’s cylindrical form and attests to the refinement of French decorative arts during the late Second Empire.
This type of production illustrates the influence of Japonism, which was then flourishing in French luxury manufacturers, with Baccarat being one of the most prestigious to develop this genre of creations.
