Recent research reveals a direct link between the motifs engraved on6,000-year-old Mesopotamian cylinder seals and the earliest signs of proto-cuneiform writing that appeared in Uruk, in southern Iraq.
Pierced in the center, the sealwas worn on a cord, around the neck or on a finger.
