Equestrian Statue Of Louis XIV
Based on the sculptures at the Place des Victoires in Paris,
this work depicts King Louis XIV on horseback, embodying the ideal of majesty and power associated with his reign.
Modeled after my large 17th-century public statues, it draws inspiration in particular from the famous monument commissioned by Marshal de La Feuillade and sculpted by Martin Desjardins.
The statue is displayed on a wooden pedestal
Commissioned by Marshal de La Feuillade and created by Martin Desjardins, the original statue depicted Louis XIV in Roman attire, crowned by Fame, towering over a group of chained prisoners symbolizing his military victories.
This monumental work, embodying the ideal of the triumphant king and monarchical glory, was destroyed during the Revolution.
This model retains the essential elements of royal iconography: the sovereign is depicted mounted on a rearing horse, in a posture of dominance and solemnity, faithful to the conventions of late 15th-century French classicism
