Japanese Print By Tokuriki: Unchu No Fuji, Fuji In The Clouds
From the series: "Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji," published by Uchida Bijutsu Shoten between 1939 and 1940, which is both a more modern interpretation and a tribute to Hokusai’s famous series of the same name created between 1826 and 1833.
A superb print from one of the very first print runs, featuring embossed details in the clouds and on the summit of Mount Fuji.
One of the most beautiful prints in this series.

Tokuriki’s series was a huge success with foreign buyers as soon as it was published.
This series is undoubtedly Tokuriki’s masterpiece and surpasses his other major series, “Scenes of Sacred Sites and Historic Monuments (Seichi Shiseki Meisho).” After World War II, he created another version in the sosaku-hanga style, which he called “Thirty-Six New Views of Mount Fuji.”
