Artist: Toyohara Kunichika
Pair of original ukiyo-e prints dated 1869 and 1867 from the Beniya Gallery. High-quality patinated metal frame and silk mat, in very good condition. These ukiyo-e prints date from the late 19th century, created by the Japanese artist Toyohara Kunichika (1835-1900), a renowned master of the Meiji period. The works depict a kabuki actor in a traditional role, with meticulous details of the costumes and makeup typical of kabuki theater. Kunichika's ukiyo-e prints are particularly prized for their vibrant portrayal of kabuki actors and their innovative use of color.
