Saint Sebastian. Carved wood. Probably from the Spanish school, 18th century.
Has some flaws.
A figurative wooden sculpture depicting a half-naked young man, tied to a tree with ropes carved from the same material, resting on a base resembling the ground or stones. Saint Sebastian of Milan was a military tribune in the Roman army who was executed during the persecution of Diocletian by flogging to death, after surviving an initial punishment during which he had been tied to a post and pierced with arrows (iconographically, the post has become a tree, and the holes left by the arrows are clearly visible in the sculpture). ·
