1991 – Marie-claude Lalique – "tanzania" Zebra Vase
Artist: Marie-claude Lalique
1991 – Marie-Claude Lalique – “Tanzania” Zebra Vase
Ball-shaped vase featuring zebras, made of black pressed molded crystal with white enamel detailing. Signed and produced by Lalique France.
Designed and created by Marie-Claude Lalique in 1991, this black crystal vase with a narrow neck draws inspiration from techniques developed by her grandfather. The piece reintroduces, for the first time in over 50 years, two traditional 1920s methods: mouth-blown glass and hand-painted enamel decoration.
The satin-finished surface highlights exotic foliage that appears to extend beyond the central frieze, where zebras are depicted in motion across the body of the vase. Each zebra is enhanced with delicate white enamel, giving a vivid sense of movement and life. The refined hand-finishing makes the object comparable to a piece of jewelry.
Height: 21 cm
Bibliography: Lalique commercial catalogue, Paris, 2000, model referenced and illustrated on page 137.
Condition reports available upon request.
