Alongside his illustrious career in haute couture, Karl Lagerfeld, a passionate music lover, also designed stage costumes. Although he collaborated less frequently with opera houses than designers such as Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Lacroix, he nevertheless designed the costumes for several productions, such as Jacques Offenbach’s *The Tales of Hoffmann* at the Florence Opera in 1980, and Berlioz’s *Les Troyens* at La Scala in Milan in 1982
