Louis Leopold Boilly (1767–1845).

A series depicting female characters and customs, with period frames and glass panels.

Six mezzotint prints, with text beneath the engraving, signed “J. Boily pinxit” in the lower left corner and engraved by Salvatore Tresca (born c. 1750–?). This dot-engraver is mentioned by Henri Beraldi in his work on 19th-century engravers.

Date: late 18th or early 19th century.

The gilded wooden frames are original and have retained their bubbled glass.

The leaf gilding and underlying layers appear intact, with a few chips and missing areas.

Condition: In its original state as found: foxing, small water stains.

Dimensions of the engravings: 32 x 21 cm (view area).

Dimensions with frame: 38.5 x 27.5 cm.

Average frame thickness between 1 cm and 1.5 cm.
