Northern Italian Bronze Workshop (16th-17th Century) - Inkwell With Figure Of A Youth And Telam

Artist: Orfèvre Du Nord De L'italie (xvie-xviie Siècle)

Northern Italian bronze workshop (16th-17th century) - Inkwell with figure of a youth and telamons.

11 x 11 x h 22 cm (4.3 x 4.3 x h 8.7 in).

Cast bronze, lost-wax technique, made in two parts, dark patina.

Inkwell entirely cast in bronze using the lost-wax technique and finished with a dark patina. The main body, decorated with deep vertical fluting, is surmounted by a standing figure of a youth, rendered with naturalistic pose and drapery. At the base, three kneeling telamon figures support the body of the inkwell, resting on a trefoil-shaped base. This typology belongs to the production of writing-desk objects widespread in Northern Italy between the 16th and 17th centuries, intended for study rooms and now sought after in decorative arts collecting.

Condition report: Good condition, patina consistent with age.
