Artist: Jean Pierre Latz
Small sloping desk with floral marquetry on a satin-finished background. The sides and back are inlaid with flowers. The interior, which features three drawers, is entirely inlaid with satin-finished wood. A mechanism reveals a shelf and a side drawer, as well as a fabric-covered panel at the back.
Attributed to Jean-Pierre Latz (1691–1754): Jean-Pierre Latz was one of the greatest cabinetmakers of the reign of Louis XV, even though he left behind only a relatively small number of stamped pieces of furniture that are cataloged today. His style is characterized by the exceptional quality of both his marquetry and his bronze work.
