Large Canton Porcelain Dish - China - 19th Century
An important circular Canton porcelain dish, finely decorated with polychrome glazes.
The central design is particularly remarkable for its rich iconography. It depicts a lively court scene in which figures gather around a gaming table, while a majestic phoenix carries a young woman aloft. This depiction echoes the legends and symbols of Chinese culture, in which the phoenix embodies virtue, prosperity, and renewal. Pavilions, gardens, pine trees, and mountains compose an ideal landscape, imbued with poetry and refinement, characteristic of the finest 19th-century Canton porcelain
The wing is richly decorated with alternating floral, bird, and landscape motifs, framed by a geometric frieze typical of 19th-century Canton porcelain. The quality of craftsmanship, the finesse of the details, and the harmony of the colors make this a decorative piece of the highest order.
A beautiful serving platter, ideal for a collection of Asian porcelain or as a decorative piece.
