A rare silver medal awarded during Napoleon’s coronation.
Made of gold or silver, the largest ones were given to the dignitaries who attended the ceremony,
while the smaller ones were thrown to the people from the forecourt of Notre Dame.
Obverse: right-facing profile of Napoleon wearing a laurel wreath, with the inscriptions “Napoléon Empereur,” “Denon DIR,” and “Andrieu F.”
Reverse: two figures, symbolizing the Senate and the people, support the Emperor on a shield, flanked on either side
by a book of laws and a plowshare, with the inscriptions: “the Senate and the people,” “AN XIII,” “Denon Dir,” “Jeuffroy F.”
Very slight wear on the relief, a few small impacts.
