Blackened Wood Sewing Table, Napoleon III Period – Second Half Of The 19th Century
This piece from the Napoleon III period, crafted from blackened wood, is distinguished by delicate marquetry featuring brass fillets that form refined frames and graceful garlands surrounding a vase of flowers on top. Its lid, lined with a mirror on the inside, opens to reveal a compartmentalized interior designed for the careful organization of small objects. A belt-style drawer is adorned with a chiseled key. The piece rests on four tapered, fluted legs adorned with slender spindles. These legs are elegantly connected by a crossbar, giving the piece a harmonious silhouette and a charm typical of the Second Empire period, where the finesse of the cabinetmaking blends with the delicacy of the brass ornamentation.
