A superb, authentic 1950s desk lamp attributed to the famous French designer Robert Mathieu for the Lunel company. A masterpiece of postwar modernist and rationalist design.
This rare model stands out for its exceptionally refined graphic lines and ingenuity
The base consists of a horseshoe-shaped bent brass tube ending in two delicate balls.
The brass stem is adjustable via a lower ball joint operated by the famous ring-shaped clamping key—a signature feature of Robert Mathieu.
This ring also allows for wall mounting so it can be used as a wall sconce.
Asymmetrical conical shade in its original cream/pale yellow lacquered metal, mounted on a ball joint to direct the light 360 degrees.
Original white push button located at the top of the shade.
Original cord and plug (plug stamped “Elismo Déposé”). Works perfectly.

In beautiful vintage condition, “as-is,” which gives it the authenticity sought after by collectors. The brass features a magnificent period patina. The lampshade shows small chips in the paint and subtle signs of wear (see photos) that attest to its 70 years of age
