Pair Of Lidded Porcelain Jars With An Aviation History Theme Featuring Hot Air Balloons, Signed By Siquier
Pair of Lidded Porcelain Jars with an Aviation History Theme (Hot Air Balloons), Signed Siquier, 20th Century
Magnificent pair of lidded porcelain medicine jars, finely hand-painted in white and accented with fine gold trim
Each jar depicts, with great precision, a historic hot-air balloon against a backdrop of azure skies and landscapes, accompanied by a calligraphic cartouche in French:
The first jar commemorates the hot-air balloon used at Napoleon I’s coronation in 1804, featuring a spectacular basket shaped like an imperial eagle and a band listing the victories at Vienna, Austerlitz, and Marengo.
The second jar commemorates Dr. Jonathan’s balloon from 1794 in Wales, decorated with tricolor stripes.
Signed by the artist J. Siquier on the base.
Excellent condition—no cracks or chips; gilding is fresh.
Height to the top of the lid: 27 cm
Diameter: 11 cm
