Auguste Moreau, Mythology: Victorious Cupid, God Of Love, Ref. 1152
Auguste Moreau (1834–1917).
At the top, as a symbol, is a winged Cupid: son of Venus and Mars, he is the god of love.
He is made of régule (painted white metal) with a bronze patina verging on green and is depicted as a victor; he has just shot his arrow, but it’s not entirely clear at whom? (Perhaps at you.) He rests on a red marble pedestal with beveled edges, atop a gilded brass cartouche inscribed with “VICI” by Aug. Moreau.
Period: circa 1880–1900.
Condition: good; the patina shows signs of normal wear and aging in some areas but remains shiny overall; no damage, no missing parts.
Total height: 45.4 cm.
Height of the Cupid: 39 cm.
Width: 25 cm.
Weight: 3.100 kilograms.
