* Black ForestCarved wooden objects from the Black Forest do not originate in Germany but were made in the Brienz region of Switzerland. The tradition of woodworking dates back many generations in this region; the locals continue the practice of wood carving on the facades of houses, furniture, and everyday objects. The carvers excel particularly in depicting wild animals in their natural habitats. In the 19th century, these naturalistic Black Forest carvings became very fashionable and highly prized.
