A rare and moving pair of carved wooden dining chairs stamped “Nadal the Elder,” originally cream-lacquered and repainted black after January 21, 1793
In fact, the great aristocratic families (whom Nadal the Elder supplied, including the Crown and the Count of Artois in particular, had certain chairs repainted black to display their mourning for the king in their homes
These office chairsfeature a crossbar that makes them very sturdy
In good overall condition; minor signs of wear from age
Original straps
Upholstered with a later (?) thick velvet wool fabric
Each chair is stamped “NADAL LAINE”
