Antique Spanish Liturgical Silver Thurible Or Censer, Spain 18th Century, C. 1750

Magnificent Spanish silver thurible or church censer from the 18th century, circa 1750, an antique piece of great appeal that immediately stands out because of its presence, its good weight and the richness of its ornamental work. It also preserves its chains, likewise in silver, something that always greatly enhances the interest of the whole and reinforces the value of the piece. It has a very pleasing size, an elegant silhouette and that highly decorative Baroque air which makes this censer visually striking from the very first moment.

The lid is decorated with perforations for the release of the incense, surrounded by floral, vegetal and scroll motifs that provide grace, movement and great liveliness. All that work allows the silver to catch the light very strongly and makes the thurible especially attractive from different angles. The body follows the same line, with a lively and repoussé surface that gives the feeling of a richly worked piece. On the lower part there are cartouches, scrolls and motifs reminiscent of fruits, reinforcing even more the beauty of the whole and its fully 18th century character.

On the base it preserves a hallmark, accompanied by other marks that today appear only partially defined. As for the condition, it is frankly very good and maintains excellent preservation for a liturgical piece of this period. It retains solidity, good presence and antiquity. It does not include the inner incense container, a part that can easily be replaced by anyone wishing to complete it again for actual use. Beyond that, the whole displays very well, with its chains present and with a weight of 662 grams that gives body, status and a clear feeling of a serious antique censer.

A very interesting piece for a fine sacred art collection, for a collection of Spanish silverwork or to complete a liturgical ensemble with a truly antique thurible. It could fit perfectly in a parish, chapel or religious setting where not only the antiquity of the piece is appreciated but also the quality of its decorative work. It combines a noble material such as silver, a very early date, beautiful ornamentation and excellent presence. A perfect piece for anyone looking for an antique Spanish silver censer or thurible, in good state of preservation and with attractive decoration.
