Hunting Dagger of Honor from the School of Forestry, Third Republic, Late 19th Century.
Dagger from the Nancy School of Forestry, dating from after 1870—the end of the Second Empire—and before 1898, when the school became the National School of Water and Forests.
- Silver-plated crossguard with a double quillon shaped like a wolf’s head, featuring the inscription “FORÊTS” in the center, set upon two oak leaf branches. Silver-plated pommel decorated with a fox’s head. Horn tang with vertical grooves. Straight blade, 57 cm long, etched on the front with a hunting trophy and foliage wreaths, and on the back with the inscription “Ecole Forestière.” Engraved blade back. Dark-grain leather scabbard with two silver-plated metal fittings. Pommel with belt loop button decorated with a wild boar’s head. Pommel cap richly decorated with foliage.
A very beautiful piece in exceptional condition. Extremely rare to find in this condition. Total length: 78 cm.
