Pierre Chartier, 1894–1980, French painter born in Épernay. He was drawn to painting and drawing from a very early age and attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris for a time. He exhibited and was a member of the Salon des Indépendants between 1929 and 1937 alongside Édouard Vuillard. He met famous painters such as Matisse and Picasso during stays on the French Riviera. He was influenced by the Impressionists, then by Fauvism. He was a figurative painter shaped by the artists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He fled Épernay because of the war and arrived in Chambon-sur-Voueize in the Creuse department in 1940. He gradually withdrew from society, devoting himself entirely to his work until the end of his life. Artist listed in Bénézit, priced by Artprice, Artnet, Akoun, etc...
