This superb carved wooden bear head is striking first and foremost for its unusually large size. Then there is the lively, mischievous look in its glass eyes. Everything about this sculpture is alive—even the fur, which seems to move. It is a very beautiful and rare piece from the Black Forest dating from the 19th century.
