Rare ancient Egyptian amulet depicting a scarab, carved from gray soapstone and dating to the 2nd millennium B.C.
The flat side of the amulet is engraved with a scene depicting a seated figure facing another standing figure, a motif characteristic of Egyptian iconography of the period. Scarab amulets played an essential role in the beliefs of ancient Egypt, where they were worn as symbols of rebirth, protection, and prosperity, for both the living and the dead.
