Attributed Laugharne Glass Wales Silver Overlay Trinket Box C.1990

A Welsh studio glass trinket box attributed to Laugharne Glass of Carmarthenshire, Wales, dating to circa 1990. The piece combines characteristic cobalt mottled glass with an intricate hallmarked sterling silver overlay, creating a distinctive and highly decorative appearance.

The sterling silver overlay is decorated with wild roses, buds and foliage. The ornament extends across both the body and the lid, with the cobalt glass visible through the pierced silverwork. The design closely resembles documented Laugharne silver-overlay wares of the late twentieth century.

Laugharne Glass developed a distinctive technique combining hand-blown coloured glass with hallmarked sterling silver overlay. The workshop produced scent bottles, trinket boxes, vases and bowls decorated with pierced silver ornament and became one of Britain's best-known makers of silver-overlay studio glass during the late twentieth century.

A partially worn British hallmark remains visible on the side-mounted silver element. Production of Laugharne silver-overlay glass ceased following the death of the firm's principal glassblower around 2010. Surviving examples remain sought after by collectors of British studio glass and decorative silver.
