Louis XVI Style Bouillotte Table, France, 1800s
- Antiques - Decor - Interior Design
Dimensions: 75 x 51 cm, H: 77 cm.
Elegant oval bouillotte table, typical of the Louis XVI style, created in the 18th century.
It owes its name to the "bouillotte," a card game that was very popular during the French Revolution.
Easily recognizable by its specific features: a marquetry tabletop, surrounded by a thin wooden rail (preventing chips or cards from falling off).
Four slender legs ending in bronze feet (one foot is missing – see photos).
The sliding shelves are covered in leather, allowing it to be used as a side table or writing desk.
The top panel is removable.
It is a double-sided wooden board: one side features a chessboard, and the other is inlaid with a bucolic scene.
