Charming Gilded Wrought Iron Console With Stylized Foliage Decoration, Paris Work Circa 1940

Charming gilded wrought iron console with stylized foliage decoration, Parisian work circa 1940

Charming wrought-iron console table formerly gilded with gold leaf and copper leaf, made in an elegant naturalistic spirit circa 1940.

This beautiful French creation is immediately seductive for the quality of its workmanship and the richness of its stylized foliage decoration. The structure is entirely embellished with finely worked leaves, organized with perfect symmetry around uprights adorned with delicate hot-forged twists. The whole ensemble composes an airy, refined décor of great decorative elegance.

The design of this console is reminiscent of the world of François-Xavier Lalanne, the famous French artist and sculptor whose creations inspired by nature are among the most sought-after works of the XXᵉ century. Without being attributed to him, this piece shares with his work this harmonious dialogue between decorative art and the plant world.

Particularly decorative, this console offers several possible uses. It can be fitted with a bespoke marble top to become an elegant hall or living room console. It can also be transformed into a coffee table thanks to the addition of a glass top, allowing you to fully appreciate the quality of the ironwork.

The old gold leaf and copper leaf gilding now show a beautiful patina of use that contributes to the charm and authenticity of the whole.

This piece has just been acquired and has not yet been thoroughly cleaned; a simple dusting will further reveal all its qualities.

Condition

Good general state of preservation.

We report normal wear to the original gilding, as well as a slight deformation of the last vertical bar located on the left side. This detail remains unobtrusive, altering neither the solidity nor the overall aesthetics of the piece, and becomes virtually invisible once the console is installed against a wall or fitted with its tray.

We note normal wear to the original gilding as well as a slight deformation of the last vertical bar located on the left side.
