Mask without fibres: 64 x 54 cm
Trousers: 115 x 52 cm
A fibre helmet mask covered with genipap – a fruit whose pulp is distinctive for containing black pigments. Its eyes, nose and mouth are carved from wood, and its circular fibre ears are attached separately. Large tufts of plant fibres form the mask’s hair.
Fibre trousers, fringed at the lower edges of the legs, decorated with geometric patterns and featuring male genitalia on the crotch.
Collected in situ by the renowned ethnographer and indigenist João Américo Peret in the late 1950s.
