Trio Of Victorian Americana XIX Velvet And Cotton Folk Art Textiles
Three Americana quilts in different sizes dating from 1875-1895. As much Log Cabin style (for the dark geometrics) with more utilitarian material work as velvet luxury, these are late Victorian to Edwardian quilts with Velvet Star patterns, more precisely a variation of a Blazing Star or Eight-Pointed Star pattern. During the "crazy quilt" craze of the 1880s to 1900s, quilters moved away from strictly utilitarian cotton and began to use rich scraps of luxury garments in shimmering hues.
