Early 18th-century French school, La Sainte Vierge et l'Enfant Jésus, servis par un ange. after the original work by Simon Vouet . The Blessed Virgin is holding the Son of God on her lap, and they are being served by a winged angel who has brought them a basket of fruit. Oil on canvas, the painting is presented in a gilded wood palmette frame, from the Empire period.
This elegant religious composition from the XVIIIᵉ century takes, in reverse image, the model preserved in the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Caen (inv. 80.9.2), attributed to Simon Vouet, Louis XIII's first painter and a major figure in the introduction of Baroque in France.The presence of a reprise en miroir is characteristic of workshop copies or works destined for the devotional market in the XVIIIᵉ century, made from gravures or cartons inversés, widely distributed at the time.
Spectacular composition in a beautiful frame, ideal as a salon painting, stairwell or above an Altar in a chapel.
Very good condition, the painting (formerly reentoilé) has been cleaned byby our restorer. The gilded frame was cleaned by our gilder.by our gilder. No damage. Superb.
