Charles BETOUT (1869-1945) was a French theatrical costume designer, a collaborator of Charles Bianchini, he designed the costumes for the Paris Opera from 1905 to 1907 and was then chef costumier de la Comédie Française between 1919 and 1939.

Scene of actors from a play. In this performance Charles Betout expresses the essence of what was his professional activity. The actors, in a very theatrical pose, are painted on a cut-out wooden panel, adding relief to the depiction.
