Two delightful portraits of children with landscape backgrounds, from the early Napoléon III period. They are surely the brother and sister painted a few years apart; the boy is dated 1853 and the girl 1857. The whole set is absolutely charming.
Salon catalogs indicate that Mlle Léonie Prin exhibited portraits from 1836 to 1848 at the Paris Salon at the Musée Royal des Arts (Musée du Louvre), and that she lived 26 place Royale.
Very fine condition apart from a very slight scratch on the portrait of the girl at shoulder level on the left. Slight soiling, dust. Antique gilded frames, minor wear visible.
