Departure Of Tippoo's Sons From Zenana, 78 X66cm, Large Framed Engraving, Late 18th Century
Late 18thᵉ or early 19thᵉ century large engraving entitled "The Departure of Tsipoo's Sons from Zenana" and depicting a historical episode: the handover of the sons of Tipû Sâhib (Tippoo Saib), ruler of the kingdom of Mysore in India, to the British authorities following the Anglo-Mysorean wars.
The scene, richly composed in an oriental decor, presents the Zenana women bidding farewell to the princes, awaited by Tipu and his elephants . The delicate treatment of the faces, costumes and architecture testifies to the quality of the engraving work.
The subject enjoyed great success in England at the end of the XVIIIᵉ century.

Mather Brown (1761-1831) was an American painter who made his career in England, mainly as a portraitist and painter of historical scenes.
Francesco Bartolozzi(1727-1815) and an engraver of Italian origin, with a career rich in success; he is among the co-founders of London's Royal Academy and the Society of Engravers.
