Important 17th-century tapered double cabinet
Richly carved walnut - Restored in our workshops

Elegant testimony to 17th-century French cabinetmaking, this remarkable piece of furniture with two tapered bodies captivates with its rich carved decoration and harmonious proportions. Crafted in walnut, it perfectly illustrates the period's taste for ornamentation inspired by the Mannerist and Baroque repertoire, where the imaginary blends with the virtuosity of the sculptor.

.

At first glance, the eye is drawn to the abundance of reliefs that enliven each panel. Fantastic chimeras, expressive mascarons, stylized foliage, scrolls and hybrid creatures unfold with remarkable decorative vigor. The upper doors feature striking mascarons surmounted by fantastical ornaments, while the lower panels are inhabited by chimeric figures whose serpentine bodies intertwine in a particularly spectacular interplay of volumes.

The ensemble is underlined by a décor of finely carved pilasters, deep moldings and drawers adorned with animal and plant motifs that give this piece of furniture an exceptional presence. Every detail reveals the expertise of a workshop fully mastering the art of relief and architectural decoration.

.

Beyond its aesthetic interest, this piece retains all the nobility of great 17th-century storage furniture, designed to span generations while affirming the rank and taste of their owners.

This piece has undergone a complete restoration in our workshops. The woods were treated preventively and curatively against woodworm, formerly worm-eaten elements were replaced in accordance with traditional techniques, and the whole has regained a beautiful structural stability as well as a warm patina highlighting the depth of the walnut and the finesse of the carvings.

And today, we're proud to present our latest piece of furniture.

Today, this piece of furniture offers remarkable presentation quality while retaining the authentic character and charm of great antique pieces.

A work of furniture that is both decorative and historical, ideal for a characterful interior, a château, a family home or a collection devoted to French furniture of the 17th and 18th centuries.
