Large Glass Scroll Vase Decorated With Fleurdelisé Riders - Cristallerie Baccarat
Important scroll-shaped vase, with cylindrical body resting on a base adorned with a radiating carved star. The main decoration features two armored riders mounted on caparisoned horses, swords held high. One of the helmets is crowned, while the horse covers and banners are strewn with fleurs-de-lis, a motif emblematic of French royalty. The composition is based on medieval chivalric imagery in the troubadour style, which was in vogue throughout the 19th century.
It's a real feast for the eyes.
The decoration stands out in clear reserve on a green background with hammered grain, and is enhanced by a gilded lineament that highlights the detail of the armor, harness, pleats and heraldic semis.
The ensemble is distinguished by the finesse of the release of the colored layer and the quality of the gilded tracery, which precisely restores the profusion of fleurdelisé fabrics.
