Artist: émile Gaudissard (1872-1953)

Elegant woman's portrait entitled "femme de Biskra" depicting a woman mirroring herself in front of a face to hand. Art Deco period work with beautiful colors. Oil on panel in perfect condition. Signed lower right "Em. Gaudissard". Perfect condition. In its original frame. Label on reverse and signature.

Painter but also sculptor and interior designer, Émile Gaudissart enjoyed great success under Art Deco in France but also internationally, notably in Algeria.

In 1924 he created the wall decorations for the new Le Bon Marché store

He was also a master upholsterer and decorator. He designed the carpets for the liner Normandie In 1933

Some of his works are today preserved in museums such as the Musée d'Orsay for

  • Le Bouquet fané, 1929, oil on canvas ;
  • Le Printemps, 1906, marble;
  • Le Maréchal ferrant, 1908, two bronze plaques;
  • Mauresque voilée, 1909, patinated bronze
The Musée des Beaux Arts d'Angers for :

  • Femme, 1908, plaster sculpture
Le jardin de la manufacture de Beauvais for:
  • La Jeunesse, 1910, sculpture;
  • Le Printemps et la Vie, sculpture.
The Manufacture des Gobelins in Paris and the Mobilier National for
  • manufacture des Gobelins: L'Oiseau bleu, tapestry
  • Ensemble des tapisseries des fauteuils "républicains" , 1933 . Intended for the cabinet room.
Musee des beaux Arts D'Alger for:

  • Bouquet de fleurs, gouache;
  • Le Printemps, 1935, bronze;
  • Job sur son manier, sculpture.

He took part in several major exhibitions during his lifetime, notably the 1900 Universal Exhibition, the 1906 and 1922 Marseille Colonial Exhibition and the 1925 Decorative Arts Exhibition
where he presented cartoons for carpets and tapestries for the collector Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann and carpets for the salon of the Hôtel du Collectionneur made by the Aubusson manufactory. And 1935 exhibition at the Musée des Beaux Arts in Algiers.
