Carved Wood Hunting Decoy - Late 19th Century
Beautiful hunting caller depicting a duck, carved entirely from a single block of wood. This antique model, dating from the late 19th century, has a beautiful patina of use and retains much of its original paint.
The head is finely carved with remarkable modeling work, complemented by glass eyes that give it a particularly realistic presence. The plumage is suggested by a decoration carved directly into the wood, testifying to the craftsmanship of its maker.
The caller is a very rare bird.
The caller is equipped with its original weighted keel, enabling its stability and balance on the water. It also has a metal ring designed to receive a rope connected to an anchor weight, in keeping with its hunting use.
