Flemish Tapestry, Early 17th Century

A very beautiful and original composition for this early 17th-century Flemish tapestry depicting a woman in classical style, chained in a prison. While not entirely certain, this scene appears to represent Danaë imprisoned by her father in the bronze tower. The tapestry is complete with its borders and retains remarkably fresh colors for its 400 years! Some losses and restorations are present. The tapestry is backed with a canvas. Provenance: a castle, never before offered for sale.
