Henri Désiré Gauquié - The Sower ( Fac Et Spera ), Solid Bronze Sculpture With Patina 32 Cm

Artist: Henri Désiré Gauquié ( 1858-1927 )
This remarkable brown patina bronze sculpture, entitled Le Semeur or Fac et Spera ("Act and Hope"), is by French sculptor Henri Désiré Gauquié.

Created around 1900, it powerfully and expressively illustrates the timeless figure of the sower, symbol of work, perseverance and hope.

The sculpture bears the artist's signature, attesting to its authenticity.

Born in 1858 and died in 1927, Henri Désiré Gauquié was one of the most talented French sculptors of his generation.

Trained by sculptor René Fache, he continued his studies at the Académie de Valenciennes before entering the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he worked in Jules Cavelier's studio.

His talent was quickly recognized: in 1881, he was awarded a third-class medal and a travel grant by the Ministry of Public Instruction and Fine Arts for his work Persée vainqueur de Méduse, acquired by the State for the Musée d'Agen.

After studying in Italy and Belgium, Gauquié returns to France enriched by new artistic influences.

His career continued to go from strength to strength: his sculpture Brennus won an award at the Salon, and a bronze of the work was installed in the Parc de la Dodenne in Valenciennes. In 1895, he also won an award at the Paris Salon for his marble group Bacchante et Satyre, which confirmed his reputation in French art circles.
