Wooden Sculpture Depicting Dante Alighieri – 19th Century

An interesting 19th-century painted wooden sculpture depicting Dante Alighieri, the famous Florentine poet and author of the Divine Comedy. The Supreme Poet is depicted according to traditional iconography, wearing a long robe, a headdress, and holding a book in his hands, a symbol of his literary work.

The figure rests on an elegant architectural base decorated on the front with the Florentine lily, a further reference to the city of Florence. The sculpture retains an evocative period patina and is distinguished by the fine quality of the carving and the expressive power of the face.

Good overall condition for its age, with normal wear and minor losses of polychromy that attest to its authenticity.
