Antique Chinese Silver Overlay Glass Decanter With Plum Blossoms, C.1900

An elegant antique Chinese glass decanter or liqueur bottle dating from the late Qing Dynasty or early Republican period, circa 1900–1930.

The clear glass body is encased within an intricate hand-worked silver overlay depicting flowering plum blossom branches. The blossoms, buds and twisting branches have been carefully chased and engraved, creating a striking decorative effect while allowing the transparency of the glass to remain visible beneath.

The bottle retains its original silver-mounted stopper with cork insert and is finished with an engraved silver collar decorated with floral motifs. The plum blossom, one of the most important symbols in Chinese art, represents perseverance, renewal and purity.

Height: 24 cm.

A fine example of Chinese decorative silverwork, combining traditional symbolism with elegant craftsmanship. Pieces of this quality were often produced for the export market during the late Qing and early Republican periods.

Good condition with age-related wear. There are some shallow dents to the silver stopper and to the silver rim around the neck. The glass is in good condition.
