Pierre Jean Vallet, portrait painter. Born in Riom (Puy-de-Dôme) on February 22, 1809, died in Tours (Indre-et-Loire) on June 22, 1886. A pupil of Ingres, he made his debut at the Salon of 1840, and the Tours museum holds a portrait of him: "The Artist's Mother." Beautiful Consulate frame with original gilding. Minor restorations, none affecting the face. Very fine brushwork.
