Corozo Snuff Box In Honour Of Emperor Napoleon Made At The Empire Period
Carved in the form of a fantastical animal with white glass eyes, fitted with a stopper attached by a small chain.
On the back, the decoration of the Emperor Napoleon I’s hat is set over his sword, accompanied by a trumpet, a Legion of Honour star and laurel leaves.
The composition rests on a cushion supported by two lions, while at the top of the monument two angels present a laurel wreath. The decoration on this snuff box carries an honorary symbolism: the cushion represents royalty and honour; the lions, strength, courage, and sovereignty; the angels, divine messengers or protectors; and the laurel wreath, glory and honour.
