Edwardian Sterling Silver Pierced Centerpiece James Deakin Sheffield 1907
Edwardian Sterling Silver Two-Tier Centrepiece, James Deakin & Sons, Sheffield, 1907
Description
An elegant and finely crafted Edwardian sterling silver two-tier centrepiece, hallmarked in Sheffield in 1907 and produced by the esteemed silversmiths James Deakin & Sons.
The centrepiece is executed in a refined hexagonal form, rising from a flared and pierced base to a central pedestal supporting two graduated tiers. Each tier is decorated with exceptional hand-pierced scrolling foliate and floral decoration, demonstrating the high level of craftsmanship associated with the finest Edwardian silver.
The openwork continues throughout the stem and base, creating a beautifully balanced and highly decorative structure. When displayed, the pierced work allows light to pass through the piece, enhancing its elegance and visual presence.
The base bears a full and crisp set of British hallmarks, including the “JD&S” maker’s mark, Sheffield crown, lion passant for sterling silver, and the date letter “p” for 1907, confirming its authenticity.
Centrepieces of this quality were produced for formal dining tables in distinguished households and remain highly desirable today.
