Antique 1904 Chester Sterling Silver Loving Cup, Nathan & Hayes Edwardian Trophy
1904 sterling silver loving cup, hallmarked in Chester, is made from solid silver in a twin-handled cup. Made by the silversmithing partnership of George Nathan & Ridley Hayes and features a bell-shaped body with a central raised girdle running horizontally around the midpoint. Two symmetrical, scroll-shaped handles are cast and applied to the sides, each terminating in a leaf-form thumb rest at the top and a scrolled join at the base. A circular pedestal foot with a slightly domed profile.
The underside of the base bears a complete set of British hallmarks, including the "GN RH" maker’s mark, the lion passant indicating sterling purity, the three wheatsheaves and sword town mark for the Chester Assay Office, and the lowercase "d" date letter for 1904. The interior of the cup displays a smooth, non-decorated silver finish.
